Care Instructions for jewelry owners
When you purchase a JURA piece you own an exclusive piece of jewelry that must be treated with special caution! Although gemstones are among the most durable of substances, they do need certain care. Following a few general rules will help ensure that they last for generations with the same beauty as on the day you bought them.
First of all, keep your precious pieces clean! Rings in particular tend to collect dust and soap behind the stones, especially if you wear them all the time.

Simplest and safest way to clean jewelry
The simplest and safest way to clean single-crystal gem jewelry is to wash it with warm water. Prepare a small bowl of sudsy water, using any mild liquid detergent and ammonia. Soak the piece a few minutes, and then brush it gently with an eyebrow brush or soft toothbrush while holding it under running water. To reduce greasy build-up on diamond jewelry, dip it in plain alcohol before soaking. Make sure the drain is closed. Some people prefer to place jewelry in a wire strainer before holding it under running water. When the piece is clean and sparkling, pat it dry with a soft lint-free cloth or paper towel.
Think twice before putting gems in an ultrasonic cleaner. Diamonds, rubies and sapphires will be fine, but many other gems may not be. When in doubt, leave it out. As an alternative, diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and other single-crystal gems can be cleaned with a touch of ammonia in water to remove all films and add extra sparkle.
Take care of your jewelry
Even the hardest gemstone variety can be vulnerable to breakage. In addition, there is the possibility of a piece losing its form with the risk of losing stones. Exercise common sense: take your jewelry off before strenuous exercise!
Diamonds are very hard but can shatter in two with a single well-placed blow. Rubies and sapphires are the toughest gems but even they can chip if hit sharply.
Storing jewelry
Store each piece of gemstone jewelry separately, so that harder stones don't scratch softer ones. Almost every gemstone is much harder than the metal it is set in. Gems can scratch the finish on your gold, silver or platinum if you throw your jewelry in a heap in a drawer or jewelry box.
Here are some Do's and Don’ts:
- DON'T wear fine jewelry when doing housework or gardening.
- DON'T heap your jewelry into one drawer. Remember a diamond ring can scratch that pearl necklace. Keep them separate and, ideally, wrapped in velvet, paper, silk or in a plastic zip-lock bag.
- DON'T use toothpaste, as its abrasives can damage softer gems and metals.
- DON'T overcrowd your jewelry box. Crowding can result in misplaced or lost jewelry if a small piece falls unnoticed from the case. Occasionally, forcing too much jewelry into the box may even bend a fragile piece or chip a delicate stone.
- DO let your jeweler check for loose stones frequently.
- DO clean fine jewelry often to maintain its sparkle and beauty.
- DO store fine jewelry carefully, observing the following guidelines:
- Store in a dry place, and avoid extremes of temperature and humidity.
- Keep gemstone-studded jewelry, pearls, and gold and silver pieces separate from one another to prevent scratching.
- Store fine jewelry pieces in soft pouches, soft cloth wraps, or plastic zip-lock bags to help protect them.
Note: An inappropriate cleaner may actually damage stones or settings.
